Road maintenance set Ottawa County road crews will be performing maintenance to several county roads over the next few weeks.
While the roads are being patched, only emergency vehicles and school buses (if applicable) will be permitted through the construction area.
The schedule for tar and chip treatment for Aug. 29-Sept. 1 includes:
• Walbridge East Road from Fostoria to Reiman Road;
• Nissen Road from N.S. railroad to north county line;
• Elliston East and West Road (entire length);
• Mud Creek Road from Hetrick to Boysen;
• Elmore Eastern Road from SR 590 to Elmore Village limit;
• Church Road from Port Clinton Eastern to Bayshore;
• Plasterbed Road from Lockwood to State Road.
Women’s Connection All area women are invited to attend the “Bring Back Quilting” luncheon and program being sponsored by the Toledo East Women’s Connection Sept. 8 at the Bayside Boardwalk, 2759 Seaman St., Oregon.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. for the noon luncheon and program. Allison Gollehon, from Black Swamp Quilters in Millbury will share how quilting has made a comeback; Cindy Rohloff, of Toledo, will provide musical entertainment and Wendy Taylor, from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, will present a talk on “From Rebellion to Submission.”

Live in the House Nationally known folk singer and songwriter Mark Dvorak will perform in concert Saturday, Sept 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Pemberville Opera House, as part of the “Live in the House Concert Series.”

Civil War lecture Sauder Village will present a free Civil War lecture, “Medical Advancements of the Civil War,” Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Sauder Heritage Inn.
The program is the fourth lecture of a special series planned to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War.
Dr. Peter J. D’Onofrio, president of the Society of Civil War Surgeons, will present part of the program as a Civil War veteran – talking about his experiences a few years after the war ended.
The final program of the Civil War Lecture Series, which will be presented Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m., will be “Civil War Musician – 1865,” presented by Michael Deren, “The Past in Person.”
New response vehicle ISOH/IMPACT has acquired a new response vehicle, thanks to a $40,000 donation from the Diehl Family Foundation,
“The truck, equipped with a lift gate and a seven-year, 70,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, will not only provide a safe and reliable means of transporting supplies, but will ensure that we can continue fulfilling our mission of reaching out and serving others for many years to come,” said Linda A. Greene, ISOH/IMPACT President/CEO.
Greene also thanked Ed Schmidt Automotive Group for assisting ISOH/IMPACT with the grant process.
Elmore Irish Festival The Guiness is on order, bows are being rosined and dancers are pinning up their curls for the 2nd Annual Elmore Irish Fest, set for Sept. 3 from 1 to 8 p.m. in Depot Park.
Musical guests for the festival, which will be held rain or shine, will include Twisted Strands, Toraigh, Sally & Friends, Mary Miller and special performances by the Ardan Academy of Irish Dance.
In addition to the live entertainment, which runs from 1 to 7:30 p.m., the festival will include vendors, demonstrations and more. Beer and food will be available at the Historical Barn.

Book signings planned Jennifer Fording will hold several book signing events for her book “Images of America Elmore and Genoa” in late August and throughout September.
Fording, local history librarian at the Harris-Elmore Public Library, will be available to sign her book at the following dates and locations:

Singles Jamboree Glass City Singles will hold its 2011 Singles Jamboree – a massive dance party held each year on Labor Day weekend – Sunday, Sept. 4 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Premier (formerly Gladieux Meadows), 4480 Heatherdowns, Toledo.
