Salvation Army camp
On June 21, 20 children got up early, loaded up a chartered bus filled with snacks and movies, and headed to Camp NEOSA in Carrollton, Ohio for a week filled with swimming, canoeing, hiking, outside sport activities, arts & crafts and lots of fun.

Camp NEOSA (Northeast Ohio Salvation Army) is one of the many programs offered by The Salvation Army-Port Clinton Service Unit. Camp NEOSA provides an atmosphere where campers learn skills in developing their physical, social and spiritual needs. To assist in the development skills of each camper, the camp is aimed at learning good health habits, provides an opportunity to contribute to and receive from a group living experience, and participating in activities that stimulate creativity and foster independence. The Port Clinton Service Unit has provided this opportunity to approximately 20 campers each year for the past twelve years.

Currently, the Salvation Army is taking applications for its “Tools for School” program and is need of bell ringers for the Christmas in July effort.

For more information, call Maureen Saponari at 419-732-ARMY (2769) or stop in at 1854 E. Perry St., Suite 800, Port Clinton.

Film discusses Alzheimer’s
The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter will host a viewing of the short film, “Inside Looking Out” July 12 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The offices are located at 2500 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo.

In the film, several persons who have early stage Alzheimer’s disease talk openly about the impact of the disease on their lives, about their feelings and about how they are coping. The openness of the participants helps to eliminate the stigma that often surrounds Alzheimer’s disease. A discussion will follow the film.

Indicted
After a recent session of the Ottawa County Grand Jury, indictments have been returned against the following individuals, according to Prosecuting Attorney Mark Mulligan:

• Liza M. Neri, also known as Liza M. Cool, of Toledo, was indicted in connection with a  March traffic accident on SR 2. According to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, Neri, 30, was operating a vehicle and reportedly went left of center, striking another vehicle. Her passenger, Kevin Varnes, died two weeks later. The driver of the other vehicle, as well as three children in the Neri vehicle, were all injured.

The indictment contained charges of Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Aggravated Vehicular Assault and Child Endangering.

• John L. Huegele, 22, of 7353 E. Harbor Rd., Marblehead, was indicted on eight felony counts of Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor, Pandering Sexually-Oriented Matter Involving Juveniles and Illegal Use of a Minor in Nudity-Oriented Matter, along with several complicity charges.

According to Danbury Township  Police reports, Huegele allegedly prompted a minor to videotape an obscene act on a cell phone camera last year and forwarded the video to his phone. Two other individuals were also charged with felony counts of Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor stemming from the same act. Clayton M. McMurray, 20, of 7341 E. Applewood Dr., Marblehead, was charged with two counts and 22-year-old Alicia L. Rohrbacher, Bellevue, was indicted on one count.

• Brian P. Nason, 34, of Oak Harbor, has been charged with two counts of Criminal Nonsupport, both felonies of the fifth degree, after he allegedly failed to pay court-ordered child support for his minor dependent from 2005 through 2007.

• Daniel L. Hudson, 23, of Toledo, and Wayne J. Vansickle, 33, of Oak Hill have both been charged with one count each of Burglary and Theft, felonies of the third and fifth degree, respectively. According to reports of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s office, the two reportedly entered a Graytown home in June 2009, taking more than $500 worth of property.

Summonses have been issued for Hudson and Nason. Both are scheduled to make their initial appearances in the Ottawa County Court of Common Pleas on July 15. Warrants have been issued for all other defendants.

An indictment is a formal charge in the Common Pleas Court and does not denote guilt or innocence, Mulligan noted.
