In order to permit the Shelly Company to construct the Otter Creek Road improvement project, Otter Creek Road will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. Monday, May 3, to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5. The entrance drives to businesses and homes within the closure area will remain open throughout the closure period. The signed detour route for all vehicles will be Corduroy Road, Lallendorf Road and York Street.
Alzheimer’s forum The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter is offering a free four-part series designed to provide support and information to persons experiencing mild memory loss from Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder. Topics to be discussed include memory loss issues, everyday coping skills, legal and financial concerns and building a support system. Workshop dates are Tuesdays, May 4, 11, 18 and 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Alzheimer’s Association office, 2500 North Reynolds Rd., Toledo.
Sessions are interrelated but, if one session is missed, participants are encouraged to attend when they can, as there are session reviews. The person who is experiencing memory loss is encouraged to invite one or more family members or friends to attend with him or her.

Law Day observance The Wood County Bar Association will host a session of the Sixth District Court of Appeals in celebration of Law Day, May 3 in Courtroom 1 of the Bowling Green Municipal Court, 711 South Dunbridge Rd.
Judges Mark Pietrykowski, Arlene Singer and Keila Cosme will hear oral arguments in six cases beginning at 9 a.m.
The Sixth District Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court for Erie, Fulton, Huron, Lucas, Ottawa, Sandusky, Williams and Wood counties. It has its principle seat in Toledo, and hears cases arising in courts of common pleas (except cases in which the death penalty was imposed for offenses committed after Jan. 1, 1996), county district courts and municipal courts within the counties of the Sixth District.
All interested citizens are invited to attend the session. Established by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958, Law Day celebrates the American heritage of liberty, justice and equality under the law. Presidential forums Owens Community College will welcome the three finalists for the position of president of the college to forums open to employees, students and members of the community April 26-28.
The open forums will be held each day from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Audio/Visual Classroom Center rooms 125-128. Owens is located on Oregon Road in Perrysburg Township.
The three presidential finalists include Dr. James Richardson, president of Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, Wash., who will visit April 26; Dr. Danette Toone, vice president of Academic and Community Initiatives of Temple College in Temple, Texas, who will visit April 27; and Dr. Para Jones, president of Spartanburg Community College in Spartanburg, S.C., who will visit April 28.
Celebrating laughter The Wood County Committee on Aging (WCCOA) will hold its fifth annual women’s retreat entitled, “Celebrating a Lifetime of Laughter” on May 14 at the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg.
This event offers women an opportunity to gather in an environment that is friendly, enjoyable and that promotes the five keys to happiness – being grateful, being optimistic, counting one’s blessings, using one’s strengths and committing acts of service.
Special guest speaker at this year’s event will be author and motivational speaker “Lemonade” Dave Justus. Referred to as “the speaker that makes a difference,” Justus is a two-time cancer survivor with more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit field. Based on the familiar saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” his current book, “The Lemonade Stand: How to Make a Difference 101,” identifies the eight key ingredients needed for making lemonade out of life’s lemons.
Other featured speakers will include E. Gail Robinson, who will speak on the power of laughter, and Kathy Teeple, of Premiere Designs, who will discuss the joy and benefits of fashion accessorizing.

Theater forming Anyone interested in participating in a new community musical theater being formed in Perrysburg is invited to an informational meeting April 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room at Way Public Library, located at the corner of Louisiana and Indiana avenues.
The Perrysburg Arts Council is looking for children and adults of all ages to be a part of the new Perrysburg Musical Theatre (PMT), whose mission is to produce one high-caliber musical theatre production per year in Perrysburg.
PMT is currently looking for actors, singers, dancers, directors, choreographers, musicians, music directors, accompanists, ushers, set designers, stage managers and technicians, seamstresses, carpenters, painters, advertising designers, and others with an interest in theater.

Film debut set Mark Cummings Sr., a Toledo native and CEO of independent film production company Awalkonwater Entertainment, LLC, will return home to debut his film, “Best Supporting Daddy,” May 1 at 4 p.m. at the Collingwood Arts Center, 2413 Collingwood Blvd.
“Best Supporting Daddy” is a romantic comedy about a once-thriving romance novelist, Cameron Rush, who is in desperate need of a bestseller. Upon hearing the news that A-list Hollywood socialite Callie DeVeaux desires to have a child, Rush plots an extreme romantic scheme to impregnate her to fuel his next book. The film was shot primarily in Columbus.

Cheerleading tryouts Cardinal Stritch will hold open cheerleading tryouts for girls in grades K-5. Tryouts are open to students who are members of the parish.

Summer camp signups Registration will begin April 26 for the East Toledo Family Center’s Summer Camp, open to children ages 3-12.
Camp will be conducted from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Heffner Early Childhood Center, 255 Heffner St. Activities planned include arts and crafts, group games and swimming, and weekly field trips including trips to the Toledo Zoo, a Mud Hens game and Rolling Hills Water park.

Earth Day collection The City of Oregon will hold an Earth Day Collection April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Oregon Municipal Building, 5330 Seaman Rd., Oregon.
The event is open to residents of Oregon and Harbor View (proof of residency required with driver’s license or other document).
Items that will be accepted for collection include solvent-based paint products (stain, shellacs, varnishes), paint thinner, gasoline (non-returnable containers only), adhesives, driveway sealers, automotive products (antifreeze, auto grease, brake fluid), automotive batteries, household batteries (terminals must be taped), household cleaners, bleach, fluorescent light bulbs, pesticides, fungicides and herbicides.
Additional onsite collections for computer equipment (CPUs, monitors, scanners, laptops, printers, keyboards, mice and speakers) and light truck or passenger car tires will be offered. There will also be secure onsite document destruction, clothing and shoe collections to benefit a local non-profit group and a collection of canned and non-perishable food items for donation to a local food bank.

A More Perfect Union Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur will be at the Harris-Elmore Public Library April 30 at 4:30 p.m. to unveil the new “We the People – A More Perfect Union” bookshelf. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.
The Harris-Elmore Library is among a number of libraries nationwide to receive the collection of 17 books and bonus materials, presented by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
To be eligible for the award, the library had to submit program ideas based on the theme, “A More Perfect Union.” The proposal included youth and adult programs commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
Electric aggregation info The Village of Millbury will host an informational meeting for the community provided by FirstEnergy Solutions concerning the upcoming ballot issue on electric aggregation.

May Day event The Northwest Ohio Patriot Coalition will host an educational event aimed at getting citizens “interested, informed and involved” May 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Park Inn Hotel, 101 N. Summit St., Toledo.
The coalition, comprised of patriot groups Back to Basics, Perrysburg Patriots, The Children of Liberty, and We-By-For, is dedicated to mobilizing citizens to recognize their civic duty while remaining vigilant in the cause of liberty.
The event feature a convention-style format, with keynote speakers, break-out sessions and exhibitions. Speakers include Joe Wurzelbacher (Joe the Plumber), Bill Wilson, of Freedom Consultants and Warren Edstrom, from the Ohio Project.
