The Terra College Foundation has set up a scholarship fund to assist the family of a Gibsonburg man killed in an industrial accident in July.

Nate Kern, a former student at Terra Community College, died from injuries he received during a roof collapse at the Fremont Company. A welder/fabricator, Kern had worked for B&W Welding for nearly 16 years.

He left behind his wife, Maria, and children, Raven, 16, and Daniel, 11. Each will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend Terra. Maria plans to attend Terra beginning in January. She is interested in digital art.

“Receiving the scholarships from Terra Community College has only affirmed my belief in the kindness, concern and generosity in our community,” Maria said. “I value this because my children will see and know it as well. It is important for them to remember this so that someday they can return it to someone else in need.”
