The Ottawa County CASA Program held a swearing-in ceremony for five new Court Appointed Special Advocates on Jan. 11.
Ottawa County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Kathleen L. Giesler administered the oath to Ron Mainous, Audrey Massie, Corinne Smith, and Linda Teen as volunteer Guardians Ad Litem in Ottawa County. The new volunteers were welcomed by the juvenile court staff and executive director Kami Sayre.
CASA volunteers advocate for an abused, neglected, or dependent child in court. In order to become a CASA volunteer, one must complete 30 hours of training, which includes information concerning child abuse, neglect, communication skills, court procedures, culture awareness, and child development, domestic violence, and substance abuse.
For information about becoming a CASA volunteer, call 419-734-7705. The next training is scheduled to begin in March.
