The Ottawa County CASA Program held a swearing-in ceremony for five new Court Appointed Special Advocates on April 7.

Ottawa County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Kathleen L. Giesler administered the oath to Connie Drummond, Cyndi Childress, ShirLee Eberle, Jennifer Hensley, and Sara Hanselman as volunteer Guardians Ad Litem in Ottawa County.

Executive Director Kami Sayre and Board Treasurer Connie Fabian hosted a reception to welcome the new volunteers following the ceremony.

A CASA volunteer is a trained volunteer who advocates for an abused, neglected, or dependent child in court.  In order to become a CASA volunteer, one must complete thirty hours of training. The training includes information concerning child abuse, neglect, communication skills, court procedures, culture awareness, and child development, domestic violence, and substance abuse.

Anyone interested in becoming a CASA volunteer may call the CASA office at 419-734-7705. The next training is scheduled to begin in July.
