Toledo
Pre-Lenten Fish Fry Feb. 10, 5-7 p.m., St. Thomas Aquinas Church hall. Featuring Alaskan pollock. Sponsored by the Holy Name Society. Proceeds benefit the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.  Funds are especially needed to help the Boy Scouts paying for a new equipment trailer.

Black History Quiz for Kids Feb. 6-10 at the Birmingham Branch Library. Kids can test their knowledge and earn a sweet treat. A special Black History Month Celebration will be held Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. at the library. Reps from the Toledo Federation of Teachers will present stories & activities for kids.

Birmingham Development Corporation will meet Feb. 6, 6 p.m., Birmingham Branch Library. A Block Watch representative will speak at the meeting. In a neighborhood survey conducted during summer 2011, Birmingham residents expressed concern about area crime and interest in creating a Block Watch. Everyone welcome.

Beginner French Class Feb. 7, 7 p.m., Ann Loolen Room, Main Branch of the Toledo-Lucas County Library. All ages welcome. Info: Christine at 567-288-9540.

Free tax assistance will be offered Feb. 14, March 13 & April 10 noon-6 p.m. at the Birmingham Branch Library. Must earn less than $50,000 per year to qualify for the free service. To make an appointment, call the United Way at 211.


Oregon

JWH Oregon Senior Center is looking for our area's best chili makers for its Chili Cook Off 2012 on Feb. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. at St. Michael's Centre, 4001 Navarre Ave. No entry fee.
