The administration and school board in the Genoa school district are hoping to relieve voter fatigue by replacing one permanent improvement levy and discontinuing another.

Voters in the district will decide a 1.6-mill continuing replacement levy on the Nov. 8 ballot that will be used to fund items such as computers, buses, building improvements, heating systems and other expenses that have a useful life of five years or more. Revenues from permanent improvement levies can’t be used for operating expenses such as salaries and benefits.

Genoa’s new police chief Robert Bratton is settling into his new digs, placing an emphasis on hands-on policing.

“What I’ve learned is the citizens really want the availability of a chief. They want to call him. They want to stop by,” said Bratton in a telephone interview Wednesday.
