Eastwood track — 13 straight titles and counting?

Eastwood’s boys’ track and field team gained coach Brian Sabo’s respect before the 2014 season even started.

“We’ve only been inside once, because of the weather, in the last three weeks,” Sabo said. “They have given great effort so far. They do their job and they work extremely hard at it. As a coach, you respect and appreciate that.”

Nikki Sabo, Brian’s wife and the Eagles’ girls coach, could say the same thing about her squad. What they can both brag about is the fact that both Eastwood teams have won 13 straight league or conference titles, including the last two in the Northern Buckeye Conference.

Sophomores Hannah Hess and Haley Hess and freshmen Karleigh Clere and Sydney Hess made sure the 2014 track and field season got off to a rousing start for the Clay girls Tuesday against visiting Eastwood.

Clay’s 4x400-meter foursome went into the final event of the meet with its team trailing Eastwood by three points. A win in the relay would give the home team five points and the team victory.

“Eastwood had probably a minimum six-second lead going into the anchor leg,” Clay coach Scott Wamer said, “and Haley ran her down.”

Legislature honors Kylee Ault, national champions
State Representative Tim Brown (R-Bowling Green) honored the Bowling Green State University cheerleading squad with House Resolution 345 for their athletic achievements. The university is located in Rep. Brown’s district, which includes all of Wood County.

The BGSU cheerleading squad was congratulated with this resolution for winning first place in the Division I small co-ed category at the 2014 College Cheer and Dance National Championships.

Kylee Ault, a 2012 Clay grad, is a member of that squad, which finished second to national champion Hofstra University the year before. The Falcons turned the tables this year. Ault, a state placing gymnast at Clay, was not a cheerleader in high school.
