Byron Reed gets late race win at Fremont Speedway

Being second in traffic was the place to be late in the feature at Fremont Speedway July 26.
Byron Reed used traffic to pass Craig Mintz on the white flag lap to get his third win off the season in the 410 Sprints at "The Track That Action Built."

Bradner's Nate Dussel passed D.J. Foos on the 22nd lap and went on to score his first career sprint car win in the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints.

Eastwood throwers take one-two in national track meet

The hammer throw is not an Ohio High School Athletic Association outdoor track and field event, so Alex Hernandez and Justin Welch were out of luck.

However, the two Eastwood track and field standouts, who both throw the shot put and discus for the Eagles, began practicing the hammer throw on their own time and it has paid off.

Since last winter the two went to Bowling Green State University to train with the Falcons’ men’s hammer throw coach.

Toledo’s Eddie Bonine named Pitcher of the Week

The International League announced Toledo Mud Hens pitcher Eddie Bonine has been named the League’s Pitcher-of-the- Week for the period from July 21-27.

Bonine is the fourth member of the Hens to win an IL weekly award in 2008. Bonine follows fellow Hens Mike Hessman (April 21-27), Chris Lambert (July 7-13), and Brent Clevlen (July 14-20).

Bonine made his first two starts for Toledo since June 6, coming on the heels of his first taste of the Major Leagues with Detroit (and one start at Double-A Erie during the Triple-A All-Star break).
