Jim Welling was no stranger to the City League

Jim Welling had been a visitor to City League gymnasiums for years.

Last December, he had to get used to being the enemy.

In his 20 years as the men's basketball coach at Owens Community College, Welling routinely visited CL schools to recruit some of the best talent in Northwest Ohio. He finished with 550 victories and two junior college national titles at Owens.

Clay freshman soccer player heading to Sweden

Clay High School freshman Brandon Resendez is going to Sweden, and he's pretty excited about it.

"I think it's pretty cool," Resendez said. "I think I'll get a pretty good experience from it. I really don't know anything about Sweden."

Captains kept Lake Flyer cagers rolling this season

An undefeated regular season and league and sectional titles are often huge momentum-builders for a program that has struggled in the past.

First-year Lake girls basketball coach Denny Meyer, whose team accomplished all of the above this season, hopes the Flyers will have momentum on their side when the 2009-10 season rolls around.
