Oak Harbor soccer coach Rob Schimmoeller enters his fifth season at the helm with 13 returning letter winners and nine returning starters — a formula for success.

Last season’s team finished 10-3-3 and won the Sandusky Bay Conference championship with an 8-1-3 record. The only thing in the Rockets’ way was a 3-0 sectional final loss to Eastwood.

Schimmoeller says this year’s team has “interchangeable parts and scoring ability from all over the field,” including 10 players who scored last year returning. That also includes the top three scorers from last year.

Last year was a dream season for the Genoa Comets football team.

It will go down historically as one of the best all-time in this Western Ottawa County town. However, the debate is already out there — are this year’s Comets going to be even better?

One year ago, the Comets completed a 13-1 season that led them to the Division IV state semi-final. The Comets won their second straight Suburban Lakes League championship along with district and regional trophies.
