The formal dedication of the Andy “Golden Tee” Toth Press Box at Morrison R. Waite High School’s newly renovated Mollenkopf Stadium will be October 17, prior to the Waite varsity football game against Rogers.

The press box was renovated mostly “gratis” by in-kind donations, said Bill Nopper, a former athletic director at Waite.

Andy Toth, who recently passed away from an illness, had co-captained Waite’s last Toledo City League championship football team in 1963, received All-City honors, and earned two varsity letters in baseball at the University of Toledo.

Fremont Speedway will hand out awards and point fund money to the top 10 in points in each of the three divisions - 410 sprints, 305 sprints and dirt trucks - at their banquet scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1 at Ole Zim's Wagonshed, St. Rt. 590, south of U.S. 20.

Reservations are required by Oct. 27. Tickets are $25 each and includes a family-style dinner and drinks. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Eastwood golfer Alyssa Shimel advanced to the state golf tournament for the first time since her freshman season by shooting a 75 at the Division II district tournament at Sycamore Springs Golf Course near Arlington

As a team, Eastwood finished fifth — two spots out of the loop to qualify as a team for state. Eastwood’s score of 381 was behind Edison (389), Huron (371), and Lima Shawnee (379), and Delphos St. John’s (380). Cardinal Stritch finished 14th at district with a score of 444.

The Eastwood girls advanced to district after finishing second at the Green Hills sectional near Clyde, thanks again to Shimel. Eastwood had a score of 404 to finish behind sectional champion Huron. Eagle players advancing are Alyssa Shimel 75, MIkayla Young 101, Hailey Bess 108, and Delaney Gentry 120.
