Eastwood's U-18 midget club hockey team is in a unique situation.

The Eagles, under fourth-year coach Brian Contris, are an independent team that draws players from 11 different high schools as well as Bowling Green State University and the University of Toledo.

Genoa Christian Community Academy opened its second full season of high school basketball Tuesday night at Apostolic Christian on Sylvania Avenue.

A more experienced Apostolic team defeated the GCCA Crusaders by about 28 points, but the evening marked another new chapter in the school’s growth. Previous to the varsity game, a first-year GCCA junior high team competed against Apostolic.

Only two area high schools, Genoa and Central Catholic, can say they have a luxury box at their football stadiums.

Genoa Booster Club President Bill Skilliter said Genoa's luxury box facility was "kind of an accident."

In mid-April of 2004, construction crews needed to move the former press box and storage faciltiy at the Genoa High School track. That fall, the Comets' football team was to move from playing at Bergman Field to the new high school stadium.
