The Eastwood boys’ track and field team and the continuing saga of the Pendleton clan at Woodmore are on the cusp of possible state championships next week. All are competing in regional action this week with hopes of advancing as well as possible.

Eastwood had 39½ points at last year's Division II state meet to finish 8½ points behind the champions, Sandusky Perkins. The Eagles also took second at the 2005 state meet.

Eastwood also handily won the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Indoor Meet in March at the University of Akron, considered the “unofficial” state indoor track meet. It was the Eagles' second straight title at that meet.

The Miracle League of Northwest Ohio will celebrate the opening of a new barrier-free baseball field for kids with special needs. At 2 p.m. players and other special guests will open the field during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Guests are invited to stay for a picnic and baseball games following the ceremony. The first game begins at 3 p.m.

The new baseball field is located in Brentwood Park, 2100 Tracy Road (behind the fire station), in Northwood. The entire field is made of a smooth, synthetic rubberized surface allowing kids with mobility issues, wheelchairs, walkers, and other adaptive devises to move around the field with ease.

The International Boxing Club has announced its 11th Anniversary Party. The IBC, which is under the direction of its founder, East Toledo native Harry E. Cummins III, first opened their doors on June 1, 1998.

The mission of the IBC is to "empower youth in the Greater Toledo Area to succeed in life". To accomplish its mission, Cummins says the IBC uses the platform of amateur boxing to reach underserved youth who are at-risk for academic failure, gang involvement, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, suicide and other destructive behaviors.

IBC has provided after school programs that focus on academic, cultural, social and recreational learning opportunities to more than 3,000 youth since its incorporation in 1998.
