After setting a new career high for strikeouts in a game against Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green Falcon pitcher Kevin Leady (Eastwood) was named the Mid-American Conference East Pitcher of the Week.

Leady was also named Papa John’s Athlete of the Week. Each week, the BGSU athletic communications department names a top athlete. On the season, Leady is 3-1 overall with a 4.34 ERA in six starts this season

The senior led the Falcons to their lone win that weekend against Eastern with a performance that ranks among the best of his career. Leady went 7.1 innings against the Eagles, allowing three runs and striking out ten hitters in the Falcons' 4-3 win on Sunday, Apr. 4.

Leady struck out four within the first two innings. He struck out the side in the second inning to end a threat when the bases were loaded with no outs and struck out the side for the second time in the game, fanning three straight in a one-two-three fifth inning.

Leady finished the game with a new career-high 10 strikeouts in the game, eclipsing a previous high set earlier this season (9) against Butler on March 8. He pulled down his third win of the season, the most by any Falcon starting pitcher this season.

Leady now leads the staff in strikeouts (33) and innings pitched (37.1). The start against EMU is his second consecutive quality start in a row, both in which he allowed only three earned runs and had a SO:BB ratio of 5:1. Combined in his last two starts, he has struck out 15, walked three and only allowed six earned runs (eight total) in 14.2 innings pitched.
