Former Press sports editor and radio broadcaster Rick Waldron has been developing a gig with Cardinal Stritch graduate Mike Jamieson and toledosportsradio.com to broadcast Genoa football and basketball games via streaming Internet audio.

"The latest big thing in radio is streaming audio, where people can listen to anything on the Internet," Waldron said. "Mike has this set-up where he is airing all the Clay and Stritch ball games. He wanted somebody to come along and do Genoa. We're all independent contractors. It's up to me to sell the advertising for the Genoa games. We have at least a three-game window for Genoa - two more regular-season games and at least one playoff game. I'm going to do play-by-play and Jeff Norwalk is going to do analysis.

Despite Genoa finishing tied for fourth with Lake in the Suburban Lakes League with an 8-6 conference record, Comet senior middle blocker Alexa Ansell was named Player of the Year.

Otsego won the league title with a 13-1 record, followed by Gibsonburg (11-3), Eastwood (9-5), Genoa (8-6), Lake (8-6), Lakota (5-9), Woodmore (1-13), and Elmwood (1-13).

Ansell was a first team choice at middle blocker, and second team middle blocker went to Eastwood senior Carrie Moenter and Gibsonburg senior Katie Jones.

Woodmore cross country runner Lacy Nagy has been selected as the SLL Athlete of the Year for her sport, plus she was named first team in the conference as her Wildcats won the league championship.

Joining the sophomore on the first team are classmate and teammates Bailey Ulinski and junior Lynne Schroeder. Emma Sullivan, Angelica McCoy, and Shelby Cuevas are honorable mention.

Nagy won the SLL title by running in 19:26.99, and Ulinski followed in second at 20:02.1. Schroeder was fifth in 20:19.97, Genoa senior Simone Eli was seventh in 20:40.33, and Eastwood freshman Lauren Caris was 10th in 21:04.68. Eastwood finished fourth as a team, Gibsonburg sixth, and Lake seventh.
