Eastwood's players may not be aware of it, but they were on the brink of making school history.

The Eagles took a 20-2 record into Wednesday's Division II boys district semifinal game against Kenton at Ashland University. Had they defeated the Wildcats and followed with a district championship, they would have become only the second Eastwood team in school history to reach the regional tournament.

Eastwood's girls bowling team was in real trouble during the finals of the 16-team state tournament last Friday at Tikki Lanes in Lancaster, so Jay Young knew he had to do something.

The Eagles' coach watched his nervous squad lose to Troy in the first game of the finals by a 180-107 margin. Eastwood then lost the second game in the best-of-five match, 179-128, so Young took action.

Clay finished 23rd at the Division I state wrestling tournament with 20 points last weekend, and had two wrestlers place.

Nick Garcia (103) closed out the meet by winning fifth place on Saturday morning, defeating Corey Salmon of Cincinnati Princeton 10-1 with a major decision.
