Woodmore senior Erin Pendleton left no surprises in the discus arena at the state track and field championships.
 
Pendleton whirled the disc 160 feet to better her nearest competitor by nearly 24 feet and put her family’s surname atop the Division III event pyramid for the sixth straight year, leading Woodmore to a seventh place team finish with 18 points on the board.
 
Pendleton also heaved out a third place mark of 40-5¼ in the shot put competition and picked up six points there.
 
Senior hurdler Tatijana Jacobson helped the Wildcats’ two-woman cause by taking seventh in the high jump with a hop of 5-2, gaining two points and a trip to the podium to pick up a medal for keepsake.

Garrett Ondrus was the last 110-meter hurdles man standing at the state track and field meet in Columbus.

That’s considering only his qualifying time at the Division I regional meet, not his performance at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium over the weekend.

Ondrus, a Clay senior and the school's 2009 James F. O'Brien winner, given to the school's best male athlete, took the fourth and final qualifying spot last Saturday at the Division I regional meet in Amherst. Ondrus clocked in at 14.89 seconds.

Genoa baseball pitcher Connor Wendt and Woodmore softball pitcher Sami Michaelis have been chosen as their respective Players of the Year by the Suburban Lakes League. Wendt shares his POY honor with Elmwood shortstop Reid Rothenbuhler.

After the conclusion of spring sports, Eastwood won both the boys and girls All-Sports Trophies for the school year. In the boys, Eastwood was followed by runner-up Genoa, then Elmwood, Woodmore, Otsego, Gibsonburg, Lakota, and Lake. In the girls, Eastwood was followed by runner-up Otsego, then Woodmore, Genoa, Lake, Elmwood, Gibsonburg, and Lakota.
