Dale Blaney likes slick smooth race tracks. He got just what he wanted at Fremont Speedway Saturday night, as he took home the $4,000 on Burkett Family Night.

"The Track That Action Built" paid tribute to the military men and women - America's heroes - during the Independence Day event, with special pre-race festivities. Saturday also marked the halfway mark of the season in the inaugural Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title Championship Series which has a separate point fund for the 410 sprint drivers totaling over $50,000 in cash and contingency prizes. Both Fremont Speedway and Attica Raceway Park also have their own separate point funds. With his second place run Friday at Attica and a strong third place finish at Fremont Saturday, Gibsonburg's Craig Mintz has grabbed the FAST Championship Series point lead.

Like most of her Lake High School basketball teammates, Kaysie Brittenham had

never set foot on an airplane before the Flyers made their trip to Chandler, Ariz., on June 22.

"That was my first time on a plane," said Brittenham, a Lake junior. "It was fun. I enjoyed it."

There were a lot of things for the 11 Lake players, coaches and parents to enjoy on their seven-day trip to Arizona. Head coach Denny Meyer, who used to coach in Chandler, took the team out West to play in a tournament and participate in other team functions.

The Oak Harbor Rockets summer club wrestling team ventured to Orlando,

Florida to compete in the Disney Duals from June 22-25, and finished fourth out of 36 teams.

The Rocket grapplers were competing as one of 36 teams in the big school classification called Community Division 1. The team completed the week-long tournament with an 11-2 dual meet record.

The Rockets were 5-0 on the first day of pool play with wins over Pine Bay Wrestling Club (Florida), 58-8, Florida Ripti, 75-3, West Forsyth, 58-8, McCutheon (Indiana), 47-23, and the Stingers from Medina, Ohio, 40-21.
