Ohio State redshirt freshman wrestler Cody “C.J.” Magrum (Oak Harbor) was seventh at 197 pounds at the Big Ten tournament, good enough to qualify him for the NCAA Wrestling Championships held March 18-20 at the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb.  Ohio State finished eighth at the NCAA with 62 points.

Magrum had five pins this season, the third most on the team.

Magrum, the No. 8 seed at the Big Ten, opened the league tournament by losing to No. 1 seed Chad Beatty (Iowa) 6-0. He then defeated Tyler Dickinson (Michigan State) 6-2, but lost to No. 4 seed Patrick Bond (Illinois) 4-0 and No. 6 seed Matt Powless (Indiana) 7-0.

terrible bicycle accident prompted doctors to tell Smith it would behoove him to give up participating in contact sports.

"I was in BMX, and I was bunny-hopping over something and I clipped my back tire and flipped forward and landed on my head," Smith recalled. "I hit the front of my head so hard that I had a three-inch radial fracture. I was in intensive care for two days.

It has been a tough six months for Eastwood junior pitcher Audrey Flores and her

               Flores Family

Last September, Flores and her brother, Jordan, 22, an Eastwood graduate, learned that their uncle, David Lapinski, had passed away. Ten days later, their grandfather, Gerald Spencer Sr., died.

In mid-February, Audrey and Jordan's father, Harvey, was suffering flu-like symptoms. Harvey and Marjorie Flores, who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in November, were in the process of donating a signed Ohio State football jersey for a fundraiser for Doug Seifert, who was fighting cancer.

Harvey, 47, who was feeling ill, told his wife to take the jersey to the Seifert benefit. It was Feb. 20.

"When I returned from working the benefit, Harvey had collapsed and died in our home," Marjorie said.

Michael "Mick" Foster was very close to Harvey Flores. Foster's daughter, Christine, is a pitcher at Eastwood, and Mick and Harvey had coached softball together for nine years.
