Fishing report now available on cell phones and other mobile devices.

Maumee River fishing has entered the world of mobile technology with the launch of the Maumee River Mobile Fishing Report.

Dave Cremer, who grew up in Perrysburg fishing the spring walleye and white bass spawning runs, knew fishing folks wanted daily river fishing reports.  He thought fisherman would like the option of receiving fishing reports on their cell phones and other mobile devices.  Cremer contacted Gary Lowry, owner of Maumee Tackle, who agreed, and now provides the daily report information.

Owens Community College 6-foot-5 basketball player Brittany Darling (Genoa) will sign with NCAA Division I Tennessee Tech.

The soon to be newest member of the Golden Eagles, Darling averaged 10.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks in her two years at Owens.

She helped lead Owens to a 27-6 record this past season, where the Lady Express were ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation before finishing the year at No. 6 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) D-II poll. The sophomore center earned First Team OCCAC All-Conference honors and was named the team’s co-MVP.

Led by Coach Michael Llanas, the Express finished the 2009-10 campaign with a 27-6 overall record and an 11-3 mark (second place) in the OCCAC regular season standings.

Owens lost to Schoolcraft College in the finals of the NJCAA Region XII Championships. The Express finished ranked No. 6 in the final poll. In the three-game regional tournament Darling had 58 points, 58 rebounds, and 12 blocks.

The Toledo City League defending champion Clay Eagles didn't mess around with their difficult non-league schedule this season.

After nine games, Clay is unbeaten and looking like the 2009 squad that reached the Division I regional title game before losing to top-ranked and eventual state champion Elyria.

“I didn't expect us to be undefeated at this point, with all the strong teams we've faced,” Coach Brenda Radabaugh said Monday night. “That's been a nice surprise.”

The Eagles swept a doubleheader against Sylvania Southview, a district finalist a year ago, and have taken care of Waite, Findlay, Bowling Green, Perrysburg (nine innings), Notre Dame Academy, Sandusky and Amherst Steele.

Clay beat Sandusky, which it beat in the district finals last year, by a 3-0 margin and blanked Amherst Steele 1-0 in a 12-inning game. Amherst Steele defeated the Eagles last season.

In the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, seven-time defending Cardinal Stritch has a new coach in Don Zbierajewski, who served the last four years as an assistant to head coach Rick Henning.
