Long time Stritch baseball coach Greg Christian resigns Long time Cardinal Stritch Catholic baseball coach Greg Christian resigned December 19 to become an assistant varsity baseball coach at another school. Christian has been the coach at Stritch for over 20 years.
“Coach Christian has given quality time to numerous student-athletes including his son Kacy who played for him while being a head baseball coach,” said Chad Rutkowski, assistant athletic director.
Christian has been the head baseball coach since 1999. He was, at different times, also the girls and boys head coach in basketball and also an assistant football coach while at Stritch.

“Greg Christian will be missed by the school as well as the department of athletics and should be recognized as a rare breed of coach that stayed at one school for a long time. Cardinal Stritch Catholic and our family wish Greg Christian good luck on his new path. He will be missed and was appreciated for all his effort and time he gave to the Cardinal family,” Rutkowski added.
Preparing for spring Track season doesn’t start until spring, but numerous athletes are getting a head start on the season by competing in indoor track. The Woodmore team trains every Tuesday and Thursday in the weight room to get in top shape for the upcoming season.
“I wanted to compete in indoor track so I don’t have to catch up to others during the season. It will be great to have my conditioning already in check so I can focus on the things that will allow me to win even more races,” said senior Taylor Avers.
Avers is not the only one who feels like competing in indoor track will greatly help her during the spring season.
“Starting to train now helps to improve everything from the strength part to the throwing and technique side of things,” said junior Megan Pendleton.
Pendleton also said she competes during the indoor season so she can get more exposure from college programs in hopes of earning an athletic scholarship.
“The more track related activities I do, the better my chances are of performing higher to improve my chances of getting a scholarship,” added Pendleton.

Jump over Cancer The Eastwood and Woodmore cheerleaders are teaming together for a community service event called “Jump over Cancer.”
Eastwood grad and Assistant Cheerleading Coach Leesa Corken developed the idea and it is now in its third year. During halftime of the Eastwood-Woodmore varsity boys’ basketball game on Feb. 3, the cheerleaders will be timed for one minute to see how many cheerleading jumps they can complete in that minute. They are collecting pledges in the amount of 25, 50, 75 cents or $1 per jump they complete in that minute. Donations of any amount are also accepted. Every penny raised will be given to the American Cancer Society to help fight all kinds of cancer. Contact a Woodmore or Eastwood cheerleader.
