Woodmore cheerleaders continue to keep tradition alive by achieving a first place victory at the Cat Challenge. Woodmore received first out of six teams with a score of 469, leading by 40 points.
They also received the awards of best dance, best jumps and best choreography.
“I was really proud of the girls at the Cat Challenge. It was the best I had ever seen them perform, and of course, it had its usual essence,” said coach Leslie Erwin.

Varsity was not the only Woodmore squad to do well. The junior high placed first, receiving a score of 449, also winning best dance, best choreography and best showmanship. Woodmore Peewee cheerleaders also received first place with a score of 425, and earning best jumps, best showmanship, best tumbling and best choreography.
“I think we have the best choreography and music compared to other squads. The difficulty and pace make it exciting to watch,” said Erwin.
Out of nine teams at the Oak Harbor Nancy Leaser Invitational, Woodmore varsity placed second, only 3.5 points behind Elmwood, which took first. The junior high also took second, but Woodmore Peewee took home first place, out of three teams.
“I hope we work even harder now, and take the judges’ feedback from previous competitions,” said Erwin.
The cheerleaders have worked very hard this season on a routine that they thought they were going to struggle with. After receiving second place at Oak Harbor, there was a little disappointment but mostly motivation and determination to show off their hard work at Genoa on Feb. 18.
“I hope we work hard and go to Genoa with an improved routine to showcase,” said senior captain Maribeth McGee.
