The Toledo Walleye and the Huntington Center are to host six high school hockey games on December 26 during the Holiday Hockey Fest to benefit former Clay player Kyle Cannon. Participating in the fest are teams from Eastwood, Lake, and Clay.
The event will be an all-day affair featuring six hockey games starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until 8 p.m. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to the participating high school hockey teams. Each team will then be making a donation to Kyle Cannon and his family. Cannon is a former hockey player at Clay High School that was paralyzed during a hockey game in 2008.
Cannon will be recognized, along with captains from all eight participating high school teams, prior to the Toledo Walleye game on December 11. The game starts at 4 p.m. and the ceremony will take place at approximately 3:45 p.m.
Walleye Manager of Special Events Michael Keedy said, “We are honored to host this unique event in December. This marks the third year that the Toledo Walleye have showcased high school hockey at the Huntington Center. In all three years, the Kyle Cannon benefit event has been a part of the high school schedule. This year, we have taken another step forward to build on the momentum of the first two years and we can’t wait for the Holiday Hockey Fest.”
Doors to the Huntington Center will open at 9:00 a.m. on December 26 and fans will be permitted to leave and re-enter during the Hockey Fest event.
Schedule of games for Holiday Hockey Fest: 10 a.m., youth game 1 (Teams TBD); 11 a.m., youth game 2 (Teams TBD); 12 p.m., Ottawa Hills vs. Lake; 2 p.m., Springfield vs. Eastwood; 4 p.m., Maumee vs. Anthony Wayne; 6 p.m., Perrysburg vs. Clay.
Tickets for the Holiday Hockey Fest are $15 each and include admission to all games. All seating will be general admission. Additionally, tickets may be redeemed at the Toledo Walleye box office for any 2011-12 regular season Walleye home game. The Walleye are the East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the 2010 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings.
Tickets are available at www.toledowalleye.com/hockeyfest and through the Walleye box office at 419-725-WALL. Tickets are also being sold by participating schools.
If fans cannot attend the Holiday Hockey Fest event, they can still purchase tickets in support of the participating teams and Kyle Cannon. The Hockey Fest ticket is still good for any regular season Walleye home game during the 2011-12 season.
