Blausey leads NBC with one shootout remaining
Heading into the Northern Buckeye Conference’s final golf shootout, Woodmore’s Bill Blausey has the lowest average at 38.3 and in points scored with 229.

Potential first team selections heading to that last shootout are Blausey, Eastwood’s Tommy Blanchard (39.0/226.5), Lake’s Nate Yeager (39.9/217), Genoa’s Andrew Goeckerman (40.0/211.5), Elmwood’s Kyle Smithey (39.5/199.5) and Woodmore’s Mikki Baer (41.4/195.5).

At Maumee Bay State Park, Blausey won the first shootout with a 36, defeating Elmwood’s Kyle Smithey (38) and Woodmore’s Mikayla Baer (39).

At Lakeland, Blausey, Blanchard, and Goeckerman tied for medalist honors with a 37. In the third shootout, Smithey was medalist with a 36 followed by Goeckerman (37) and Blanchard, Eastwood’s Nathan Schuessler, and Lake’s Nate Yeager each shot a 40.

In the final tournament at Green Hills, Blanchard was medalist with a 74, followed by Yeager (77), Blausey (78), Goeckerman (80), Rossford’s Justin Robinson (80), and Woodmore golfer Matthew Zatko.

Those in range for second team are Lake’s Casey Conine (43.4/180.5), Robinson (43.8/171.5) and Eastwood golfers Austin Speck (43.3/177), John Krock (42.5/175), Steven Bruning (42.1/174.5) and Schuessler (42.8/173.5).

Honorable mention choices are currently Lake’s Ian Johnson (42.8/171), Genoa’s Trevor McLear (42.9/163), Eastwood’s Cody Jennings (43.5/159) and Woodmore golfers Paul Pakulinski (42.8/170), Ty Burner (43.4/166.5) and Zatko (40.7/163.5).

Local golfers still in line still competing for one of those honors are Genoa golfer Chris Capinski (43.3/155.5), Lake’s Cole Brossia (43.9/154), Lake’s Jake Materni (43.9/153.5), Genoa’s Taylor Darling (43.3/150), Rossford’s Mason Robinson (46.0/145), Rossford’s Ryan Fairbanks (45.9/135), Lake’s Michael Krantz (44.9/134.5), Rossford’s Alex Smith (47.8/122.5), and Rossford’s Mack Miller (49.5/101).


Genoa third in girls golf
Elmwood won the NBC girls golf championship, scoring 46 team points to outdistance Otsego (37), Genoa (37), Rossford (34), and Eastwood (25). Lake did not have enough golfers to field a team.

In the NBC tournament at Green Hills, Otsego had the low score with a 430, Elmwood followed at 432, Rossford (444) was third, Genoa (478) fifth, and Eastwood (502) sixth.

NBC Co-Players of the year are Elmwood’s Karly Haughawout and Otsego’s Morgan Booth. Booth was medalist at the NBC meet with an 88. Joining them on the first team locally are Genoa’s Paige Neuman (106 at NBC meet/213.5 points) and Lake’s Megan Schnell (105/217.5).

Local second team selections are Genoa’s Rikki Shoemaker (107/197), Eastwood’s Hannah Cook (107/187.5), and Rossford golfers Katie Wellman (109/209.5), Shannon Parisi (111/185.5), and Donna Scott (107/171.5).

Honorable mention picks are Eastwood’s Elisa Reyes (142/146) and Abbi Sheldrick (116/134.5), Genoa’s Skyler Zunk (121/184.5), Rossford’s Maalaea Newell (117/169) and Lake’s Courtney Kranz (115/172.5). Their finish for league honors was based on their final points, including league shoot-outs, not just their score at the league tournament.


Guerrero Fund scramble
Owens Community College will present it annual Express Four-Person Golf Scramble at 9 a.m. on Oct. 8. Coordinated by Owens’ golf program, the golf outing will be held at Bedford Hills Golf Club in Temperance, Mich. The event will feature 18-holes of golf, lunch and an awards program.

The entry fee is $60 per player and all proceeds from the event will benefit the intercollegiate athletic men’s golf program and the Steven G. Guerrero Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Led by Coach Gilbert Guerrero, the Express golf team captured one match and invitational title during the last season, highlighted by a third-place finish in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) Championship Invitational. The program also finished third in the NJCAA Region XII Sub-Regional Championship after rounds of 329-309 (638) at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg. Additionally, Owens placed eighth in the NJCAA Region XII Golf Championship.
