Eastwood grad named academic an All-American Alyssa LaVoy, an Eastwood graduate, was one of 11 student athletes at Owens Community College to receive 2010-11 Academic Student-Athlete Award honors by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and on the athletic playing field.
LaVoy was recognized for her 4.0 grade point average (biology) and her accomplishments on the volleyball court. She recorded 27 sets and 25 digs this past season.
Selection is based upon achieving between 3.60-3.79 grade point average for NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement All-American honors, 3.80-3.99 grade point average for NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement All-American honors and a 4.0 grade point average for NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence All-American honors.
Sports Announcements The Lady Jr. Eagles U-12 girls’ fast-pitch travel team will hold open tryouts Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Oregon Rec Center, Diamonds 3 and 4. The rain date is Sunday.
Age cut off is January 1, 2012. Arrive 30 minutes early with a parent.

********* Eastwood boys’ basketball will hold its First Annual Golf Scramble August 27 at Crosswinds Golf Course. Cost is $50 per player and $200 per team. ********* Tickets are now on sale for the annual Toledo Walleye FinFest to be held Saturday, October 8 at the Huntington Center.
The interactive event will feature photo opportunities, ice time with several Walleye players and children’s activities throughout the concourse. The exhibition game against the Kalamazoo Wings will begin at 5 p.m.

********* The Genoa Area Softball Association will hold tryouts for Fall Ball Gold Teams at the high school softball field. 10U tryouts are Wednesday and 12U and 14U are Thursday. The time is 5:15 to 8 p.m. Rain date is Friday.
