The Eagles Green team wrestled in the D-II bracket, finishing 20th overall and second in the consolation bracket.
Clay took two teams of 25 wrestlers, five coaches and three team advisors to the event held at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex. This is the fourth year Eagles have traveled to Florida for the Disney Duals.
The Eagles won 174 total individual matches and 13 dual meets. Longtime coaches Troy McLaughlin and Mark Beach set up the trip just as they did for the Lake Erie Junior Olympic teams the last 15 years.
According to a press release, new Clay head coach Ralph Cubberly, formerly at Eastwood and Defiance, also made the trip to “evaluate and build relationships with his new team. Wrestling at Clay has become special and people want to be part of it.
“The Oregon Clay wrestling team would like to thank all the people who helped make their trip a success — the volunteers, parents, coaches, and sponsor,” the release continued. “The Clay wrestling team has evolved into a huge family affair.”
