Owens Community College sophomore third baseman Alaina Haubert (Gibsonburg) has been named NJCAA Division II Third Team All-American.
Haubert set an Owens softball record for doubles (22) in a season. In addition, her 51 RBI ranked No. 38 in the country among NJCAA Division II women’s softball student-athletes. Haubert also totaled 75 hits, 53 runs, four triples, seven home runs and a .481 batting average.
Her honors included selection to the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) All-Conference and NJCAA All-Region XII teams. Additionally, Haubert received Owens’ Most Valuable Player and OCCAC Player of the Year awards.

Express women’s softball completed the season with a 44-5 overall record and captured its tenth OCCAC (6-2 record) title in the program’s history. Led by Coach Duane Lanham, Owens was ranked No. 8 in the final NJCAA Division II women’s softball regular season poll.
The women’s softball team also advanced to its second NJCAA Division II National Championship tournament where they finished second among 16 participating intercollegiate teams. Owens lost to Louisiana State University-Eunice 10-0 in the NJCAA Division II National Championship game. The Express is the first women’s intercollegiate athletic program in school history to advance to the national championship game.
Matea Rice (Clay) was the softball team’s Most Improved Player and Kristen Roznoski (Cardinal Stritch) is the Offensive Player of the Year. Roznoski and Rice joined Haubert on the OCCAC first team, while Roznoski was also an NJCAA All-Region first team member and Rice made the NJCAA D-II all-national championship tournament team.
Other local members of the Express softball team were Annie DeTray (Oak Harbor), Elizabeth Weber (Oak Harbor), Courtney Mowery (Genoa), Hallie Thompson (Clay), and Kasey Graham (Clay).
The Owens men’s baseball program finished the 2011 season with a 25-13 overall record and in second place in the OCCAC (9-5 record). Coached by Del Young, Owens lost to Vincennes University in the NJCAA Sub-Region XII Championships. Ryan Hotmer (Lake) is an OCCAC first team selection.
Led by Coach Gilbert Guerrero, the Express golf team captured one match and invitational title during the season, highlighted by a third-place finish in the OCCAC Championship Invitational. The program also finished third in the NJCAA Region XII Sub-Regional Championship after rounds of 329-309 (638) at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg. Additionally, Owens placed eighth in the NJCAA Region XII Golf Championship.
Kyle Simmons (Genoa) and Brooks Gardner (Bowling Green) are OCCAC second team selections and Simmons also received the team’s Best Newcomer Award. Gardner is the Most Improved Player and Gardner and Lee Schmidlin (Whitmer) are winners of the Co-Coaches Award. Also on the team is Louis Fahrbach (Northwood).
