Both Eastwood teams, Oak Harbor girls win championships
Eastwood boys and girls track teams both brought home Suburban Lakes League championships in the final year of the conference.

The boys’ team scored 194 points to outdistance Elmwood (105), Lake (101), Otsego (79), Woodmore (72), Genoa (58), and Gibsonburg (45).

The Eagle girls scored 175 to outscore Woodmore (132), Lake (109), Otsego (87), Elmwood (60), Genoa (54), and Gibsonburg (38).

Eastwood’s 4x100 relay, consisting of sophomore Isaiah Conkle, junior Kyle Dierker, senior Nate Wagner, and senior Taylor Depew set a new meet record of 43.48, breaking the Mark set by the 2003 Eastwood team (N. Donaldson, J. Oberdick, B. Snyder, Steve Beeley, 43.6).

Eastwood’s 4x400 relay team, Conkle, junior Kyle Schlumbohm, Depew, and Twining also set a new record with a time of 3:26.09, breaking the previous mark of 3:26.3 set in 2004 by Genoa (Andrew Hartman, Zach Alt, Adam Edens, Kyle Riffle).

Other Eastwood champions were (boys) sophomore Derek Snowden, long jump (19-4¼); Kyle Schlumbohm, pole vault, 13-6; 4x800 relay, seniors Troy Whal, Aaron Brinker, Darin Goodman, Nick Twining, 8:32.37; sophomore Blake Kohring, 110 hurdles, 15.67; Wagner, 100, 11.48; Conkle, 400, 52.79; Twining, 800, 1:57.17; Dierker, 200, 23.24; (girls) sophomore Aricka LaVoy, long jump, 15-5¼; junior Rachel McNay, 100 hurdles, 16.8, and 300 hurdles, 47.55; junior Erica Hollister, 100, 13.48; 4x100 relay, Hollister, LaVoy, senior Audrey Flores, junior Courtney Rolf, 51.47; freshman Maddie Jackson, 400, 1:02.32; 4x400 relay, Jackson, McNay, Flores, and LaVoy, 4:13.8;

Woodmore champions were (boys) 4x200 relay, senior Brian Alexander, freshman Malachi Brown, sophomore Andrew Shrewsbury, senior Cody Curry, 1:33.47; (girls) senior Carly Pendleton, discus, 147-1; 4x800 relay, senior Lacy Nagy, junior Taylor Avers, sophomore Ally Brown, freshman Allie Wank, 10:26.28; and sophomore Karli Keaton, 200, 27.73;

Lake champions were (boys) junior Nathan Adkins, 1600, 4:39.21 and 3,200, 10:42.92; (girls) 4x200 relay, freshman Nicole Pennington, sophomore Ashley Timmons, senior Jessica Abbey, and sophomore Rebecca Boos, 1:49.15;

Genoa champions were senior (boys) Brad Szypka, shot put, 59-1, and discus, 147-4; and (girls) Tiffany Wright, 800, 2:19.53.

Oak Harbor girls were Sandusky Bay Conference champs, scoring 141 points to defeat Sandusky St. Mary (91), Port Clinton (64½), Clyde (59½), Perkins and Edison tied at 53, Margaretta (49), and Huron (16).

The Rocket boys scored 95 points to finish third behind Perkins (141) and Huron (109) and ahead of Clyde and Margaretta tied at 60, Edison (33), PC (15), and St. Mary (13).

Oak Harbor champions were (girls) senior Dayna Setzler, long jump, 15-8½; 4x800 relay, senior Caitlyn Harvey, freshman Trinity Gephart, sophomore Allie Dresser, senior Kia Frank, 10:06.76; 4x100 relay, sophomore Alexis Huntebrinker, senior Kayla Diefenthaler, junior Sinae Choe, sophomore Allie Dombrowsky, 51.47; 4x400 relay, Setzler, Harvey, Diefenthaler, Dombrowsky, 4:13.91; Dombrowsky, 300 hurdles, 48.3; Frank, 3,200, 12:07.7; (boys) senior Tyler Eoff, 800, 2:00.8, and Adam Smercina, 3,200, 10:15.9.

In the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, Northwood girls finished second, scoring 87 points to trail Toledo Christian (202½). Following were Danbury (71½), Maumee Valley (53), Cardinal Stritch (52), Ottawa Hills (37), and Emmanuel Christian (1).

The Northwood boys were seventh with 17 points, finishing behind TC (187), MV (76), OH (72½), Danbury (72), Stritch (42½), and Emmanuel (39).

Northwood girls champions were junior Kayla Kurth, 100, 12.9 and 200, 27 and the 4x200 relay team of freshman Jessica Tonti, junior Nikki Davenport, junior Jessica Grindle, Kurth, 1:52.1;

In the Toledo City League, Clay girls were fifth with 56 points to finish behind Notre Dame (174½), Central Catholic (99¼), Whitmer (86), and Rogers (80). Trailing were Bowsher (50¼), St. Ursula (48¼), Start (38¼), and Scott (25½).

The Clay boys were sixth with 78 points, trailing St. John’s (114), Whitmer (108½), Rogers (101), Central (97), and St. Francis (80). Trailing Clay was Bowsher (43½), Start (23), Waite and Scott tied with three points each and Woodward had one point.


Waite, Clay trade divisions
As Clay begins play in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference next fall, the football team will drop from Division I to D-II for the playoffs, while Waite moves from D-II back up to D-I.

Among Toledo City League schools, Start also moved from D-II to D-I, and Rogers and Woodward will upgrade from D-III to D-II.

As Rossford begins play in the Northern Buckeye Conference next fall, it will move from D-IV to D-III, while Sandusky Bay Conference member Oak Harbor goes from D-III to D-IV.


McNutt to Urbana
Oak Harbor senior Bethany McNutt will swim at Urbana University beginning next fall.  McNutt is a four-year varsity letter winner for the Rocket girls swimming team and was a member of this year's state qualifying 200 yard medley relay team.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will present a soccer camp for grades 6-8 at Camp Sabroske, 4405 N. Toussaint Rd., Oak Harbor. Cost is $250 for the four-day overnight camp.
