Holmes sisters to be future foes in Horizon League Next season, Clay senior Danielle Holmes and her sister Brandy Holmes, a former Clay Eagle, will be foes playing softball in the Horizon League. Danielle and Brandy are the daughters of Bill and Laurie Holmes.
Danielle signed her National Letter of Intent to play at the University of Detroit Mercy, while Brandy is already a sophomore pitcher playing at Cleveland State University.
Danielle, who plays outfield and shortstop, was named All-City League first team and All-District first team in 2009 and 2010, and in 2009 she led Clay to a district runner-up finish. She currently holds a .436 batting average with 22 stolen bases and an .893 on-base percentage. She played with the Lady Lasers club team, helping them to the 2009 and 2010 Amateur Softball Association nationals.
“Dani is a speedy outfielder/slapper that will have the opportunity to immediately contribute in anchoring down our outfield. Her speed gives her the ability to cover a lot of ground and also be a threat offensively,” said Detroit Mercy coach Sunny Jones. “She has a very bright personality and will bring a positive attitude to the team.”
At Cleveland State, Brandy has made five appearances on the mound this year, including three starts, giving up 10 earned runs, striking out seven, and walking five. CSU is 21-16 overall and in a fifth place tie with Loyola at 6-5 in the league.
Last year as a freshman, Brandy made one start at pitcher and nine total appearances, earning herself a 3-0 record. She had a 4.29 ERA with over a 5:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio and gave up no earned runs in her one start in four innings of work at Robert Morris.

In 2009, Brandy sat out the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during preseason training and was redshirted to maintain her freshman eligibility.
At Clay, Brandy was a four-year letter winner, two-time City League tournament MVP and named All-City first team three times. She was second team all-state as a junior, second team all-district as a sophomore and junior and first team as a senior.
At Clay, she set a school record pitching 15 strikeouts in a game and at the plate, held the school record for six home runs hit her senior year. As a junior she batted .366 and had an ERA of 1.17 and as a sophomore she hit .333 with an ERA of 0.85.
