Scott Denham wins 1,500 race at Duke Invititational

Scott Denham II (Clay), a senior at Youngstown State University, won the 1,500 meter run at Duke University’s invitational on April 8 with a time of 4:04.07.

At the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational, Denham had a season and career-best time of 1:53.86 in winning the 800 meters

At the Horizon League indoor championships in late February, the YSU distance medley relay team of Eric Rupe, James Nell, Denham and Joe Copploe placed fifth. In the one mile run, YSU freshman Eric Rupe crossed the line in 4:17.08 as Denham was just behind him in 4:18.74.

Denham has received 11 letters up to this point and will receive his 12 at the end of the outdoor season. He will graduate on May 11 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

In the 2010 outdoor season, Denham finished eighth in the 800m at the Horizon League Championships with a time of 1:56.10 after qualifying with a season-best 1:54.73. He also ran in the 4x400m relay at the same meet, placed sixth in the 800m at the Sparky Adams Invitational with a time of 1:55.24 and ran a season-best 4:02.92 in the 1,500m at the Sea Ray Relays.

At Clay, Denham set school records in the 800 meter, the distance medley and the 4x400m relay. He was rewarded for being Clay's top point scorer, Outstanding Distance Runner and Rookie of the Year and earned first-team all-league honors three years. He was a regional and state qualifier and also played basketball where he led the team in points and steals.

The Walbridge Herb Minuto U12 and U14 baseball tournaments begin April 27 at Railway and Loop Parks in Walbridge and Veterans Park in Millbury for PeeWee and Colt 14 divisions. Team fee is $150.
