The Oak Harbor Middle School wrestling team blasted through the Sandusky Bay Conference tournament at Clyde Middle School, besting the field by 85 points.
After the semifinals, which landed 10 Rockets in the championship finals, the lead would never be changed. Taking league titles for the team were Rhett Petersen, 94, Mike Osbourne, 100, Andy Burnette, 110, Ben Petersen, 130, Brody Hennig, 136, and T.J. Lawerence, hwt.
Finishing second for the Rockets were Jeremy Balboa, 106, Ben Bergman, 118, John Pluto, 124, and Thomas Loope, 144. Trent Johannsen, 82, and Josh Beckhusen, 162, took third while Michael Boss took fourth at 88. On a side note, Nick Bergman did not compete at the SBC tournament due to injury, but did finish the season undefeated.
Oak Harbor finished the season with four tournament titles and a 15-1 dual meet record.

On February 6, 11 Oak Harbor wrestlers competed at the OAC Grade School District Tournament at Clay. Out of those 11, nine would advance to the state tournament by placing in the top four of their respective weight classes.
Three of the wrestlers would win district championships. They were Jake Evans, Tyler Bowlick and Trevor Scherf. The other six advancing to the state tournament were Jacob Huston, Jaret Parker, Bruce Hrynciw, all taking second, and Dylan Mansor, Dylan Thorp, Wyatt Miller, each taking third.
The Gibsonburg biddy wrestling team took home the final Suburban Lakes League team championship February 14 at Otsego High School. Gibsonburg had 11 champions and five runner-up finishes.
Gibsonburg team members are Antonio Salazar, Bryce Maynard, Nate Damschroder, Philip Davies, Daniel Schmeltz, Andrew Holcomb, Dylan Collins, Marciano Salazar, Nathan Tornow, Hugo Villarreal, Brenden Biddle, Ryan Clark, Madison Jaso, Brady Jaso, Ben Davies, Jonathan Auld, Jeremy Heminger, Jarett Spoores, Chase Liskai, Gabe Mendoza, Zach Hasselbach, Nicholas Tornow, James Vera, Avery Teeple, Xavier Escobedo, Daniel Frost, David Reyna, Connor Smith, Hunter Smith, Jason Hindall, Lucas Zamudio, and Aiden Miller.
Coaches are Manny Salazar, Hugo Villarreal, Chad Biddle and head coach Greg Spoores, and “Team Pin Grandma” Pauline Rupke,
The Lake Junior Flyer wrestlers took an unprecedented fourth place finish in the SLL biddy tournament. Varsity coach Tom Jackson lauded the team for its best performance since the program restarted.
“The boys worked hard and it showed,” said Jackson.
The Junior Flyers finished the competition with 17 wrestlers placing, including six champions.
“It was an impressive tournament. The Flyer grapplers are working hard and listening to their coaches. The pride in the faces of these boys showed that their hard work paid off. These boys are the future Lake Flyer varsity teams, a force to be reckoned with.” said Dusty Morgillo of the Junior Flyers coaching staff.
Placing for the Flyers in Division 1 were: first place — Neil Cannon (44 pound weight class) and Connor Moore (59); third — Noah Snyder (50); fourth — Aaron Locknane (44). Division 2: first — Dusty Morgillo (78); third — Austin Greene (85); fourth — Noah Robie (55) and Cody Ogle (57). Division 3: first — Harry Jackson (80); third — Tyler Haygood (51) and Zach Perkins (72); fourth — Mason McNalley (117). Division 4: first — Brandon Taylor (88) and Joey Moore (153); second: Jake Willett (149); third: Michael Cluckey (149); fourth — Gage Gillen (88).
