Kubuske comes with 28 years head coaching experiences and 34 total years of coaching. Kubuske had gone 45-45 in nine seasons at the helm of the Lake program.
“Having coached at the junior high, high school, and college levels, I feel I have much to give to Cardinal Stritch High School and Kateri Catholic Academy,” said Kubuske, who as a head coach won a conference championship, qualified twice for the state playoffs and was named Coach of the Year four times.
Cardinal Stritch officials say Jim Tressel, head football coach at Ohio State, highly recommended Kubuske due to his commitment to the athletes and the game. Kubuske has worked hand and hand with Tressel at summer football youth camps.
“I’ve known Jim since the mid 70s, and he’s a football guy who cares about kids. He loves the game, loves kids, and loves to be around them. I have no reservations and would hire him in a heartbeat,” Tressel is quoted in a Kateri press release.
Stritch says Mike Gottfried of ESPN also endorsed Kubuske for the job by saying, “He’s an outstanding coach and I recommend Coach Kubuske with the highest regard.”
Chad J. Rutkowski, director of athletics at Stritch and Kateri, said, “We are thrilled to have Coach Kubuske lead our football program. Not only is Jim Kubuske, a highly respected coach among both his peers and his players, he brings an extensive knowledge of the game to Stritch.”
Stritch will host a meet and greet with Kubuske during the varsity boys basketball game on February 8.
“With great excitement and enthusiasm, I and the entire Cardinal Family, welcome Coach Kubuske to Cardinal Stritch High School,” said President Father Eric Schild. “We look forward to success on and off the field under his proven leadership. Go Cards.”
