track and field scholarship.
Szypka will compete in “throwing” events at Kentucky. The outdoor hammer and indoor weight throw will be his specialties. The Wildcats “throws” coach is Doug Reynolds.
Last year as a junior at Genoa, Szypka made it to the Division II regional in discus and qualified and threw in the 2010 USATF Junior Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa.
Wood County Dartball Pemberville Methodist is leading the Wood County Dartball Standings with a 29-10 record, 2½ games better than (Pemberville) Bethlehem No. 2 at 28-14.
Bethlehem No. 1 is the third Pemberville area team to top the standings, tied for third with Stony Ridge and Zion Luckey at 24-18 heading into Monday’s action.
Pemberville Presbyterian is sixth (23-19), followed by New Rochester (22-20), Bowling Green Trinity United Methodist (18-21), BG St. Mark’s (16-26), BG Nazarene (16-26), BG Cloverdale (24-28), and Salem (11-31). Some teams have matches that were postponed due to inclement weather and have yet to be made up.
January 17 results: Zion Luckey (14-5-4) at Pemberville Methodist (11-10-8); Pemberville Presbyterian (5-3-5) at New Rochester (3-2-2), first game 10 inn., second game 12 inn.; Salem (4-1-4) at BG Nazarene (5-0-5); BG Trinity United Methodist (1-1-3) at BG St. Mark’s (4-3-0), second game 13 inn.; Bethlehem No. 1 (2-6-3) at Stony Ridge (11-9-10); BG Cloverdale (8-1-4) at Bethlehem No. 2 (5-7-10).
OSU-Michigan Penny War The Clay CADD juniors and seniors raised over $600 in the Seventh Annual Ohio State-Michigan Penny War, with proceeds going to the high school’s Adopt-A-Family for Christmas. Oregon City School students collected money and gifts to help other school district students over the holidays.
Sports Announcements To raise money for prostate cancer awareness, Eastwood will hold a Pin2Win fundraiser at the Eastwood Duals on Feb. 5. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Call Vicki Welch at 419-410-7238.
