On December 6, BGSM ended its 11-game losing streak with its middle-game victory against Bethlehem No. 2. Despite a six-run first inning in game three against ZL, BGC dropped the finale after ZL rallied with a seven-run ninth to erase an 8-6 deficit and complete the sweep. BGC added six more HRs to its season total. BGC’s five HRs in the first two games accounted for all of the team’s runs.
The senior Jim Jividen’s two-run HR in the bottom of the ninth gave PM a game two victory over NR on Nov. 29.
ZL and Bethlehem No. 1 combined for 62 hits and 31 runs in its opening game on Nov. 22. ZL pulled out a win with a two-out triple in the bottom of the 11th inning. PM also played in the other 17-inning game earlier this year, winning that game at home against PP.
On Nov. 8, NR hit four HRs in its opening-game win at ZL. NR also captured the second game thanks in part to Steve Bockbrader’s winning hit in the last of the ninth. BGN’s 10 runs in its game one victory on Monday against PP was a season best.
On Nov. 1, Bethlehem No. 1 cooled off first-place PM by winning two of three games. PM’s lone win (game two) came in the last of the ninth. PM was shut out for the first time since losing, 2-0, against BGSM at the league tournament in March of last year. BGC hit 10 HRs (4-5-1) in its series against NR. NR struck for four HRs of its own.
BGTUM’s Ivan Carter hit three HRs in the finale against Bethlehem on Oct. 25. However, B2, down 9-2 heading into the last of the ninth, rallied for eight runs and the victory. B2’s John Keiser had a grand slam in the final inning uprising. B1 hit the DP square a total of five times (none of which counted) in its opening-game loss at BGSM, including a remarkable three straight batters in the sixth inning. B1 added a DP that counted in the second game for good measure.
Trailing 4-2 in the top of the 9th of game one, B2’s John Keiser hit a three-run HR that proved to be a game winner on Oct. 18. Keiser finished the night with three HRs. SR was held to just 12 hits in two shutout losses including five in the first game. B1 won its third game with a bottom of the ninth HR.
On Oct. 11, Salem’s Bob Dierker led his team going 8-for-12. All of his hits were doubles. Roger Kahlenberg paced B2 with a 10-for-14 effort, including six triples, one HR, and 10 RBI.
B2’s John Keiser hit back-to-back HRs in game three against ZL on Oct. 4. He followed a two-run HR with a three-run dinger helping his team to an opening-week series victory over the defending league co-champs.
