The Toledo Walleye are fourth in the North Division of the East Coast Hockey League at 9-12-2-1.
Last week, the Walleye went 1-0-1 by defeating the Cincinnati Cyclones 5-2 and losing to the Kalamazoo Wings 6-5 in overtime. Over the weekend the Walleye had games at the Elmira Jackals and Trenton Devils.
The Walleye used two goals from Andy Bohmbach and a game-winner from Adam Keefe with five minutes less to defeat Cincinnati 5-2. Toledo has scored just three goals in three previous games against Cyclones goaltender Marc Cheverie, but they struck for three against him Friday (the last two were empty net goals.)
As the weather gets colder, the Walleye offense has been heating up. Toledo has scored 22 goals in the last five games for an average of 4.4 per contest. The Walleye have a record of 3-1-1-0 in those contests. The Walleye power play is 5 for its last 24 (19.2 percent), which is the best five-game stretch for the unit this season.
Jordan Pearce was the goalkeeper for both games, earning a 3.96 GAA and .905 save percentage.
Walleye forward Andy Bohmbach has been blazing hot in December. In six games this month, he has struck for seven goals. Bohmbach has scored 11 goals this season. He scored twice on Friday night, and added another in Kalamazoo Saturday for three points over the weekend.
Toledo has collected 12 of its 21 points this season against Division foes. Toledo is 5-6-2-0 against Wheeling, Cincinnati, and Kalamazoo. The Walleye have outshot those teams by a combined 429-380, and the power play has connected nine times in 60 opportunities (15 percent).
Toledo traveled east to Elmira for a Saturday contest and a Sunday affair in Trenton. The Walleye and Jackals last met on November 3 in Toledo. Elmira won that matchup 4-1, despite the Walleye having a 38-26 shot advantage. The Devils beat Toledo 4-2 in the lone meeting this year on December 1.
