Lake sophomore midfielder Shelby Antonacci and Woodmore junior attacker Taylor Avers have been named Suburban Lakes League girls soccer Co-Players of the Year.

Lake senior attacker Bryant Philo is POY in boys soccer, and

 in SLL volleyball, Eastwood senior setter Katie Primeau is POY.

Lake girls won the league soccer championship with an 8-0 record, followed by Genoa and Woodmore, who are co-runners-up at 5-3, followed by Eastwood (2-6) and Otsego (0-8). In the district tournament, Genoa defeated Lake in a semifinal, and Genoa was defeated in the final.

In boys soccer, Eastwood won the title with a 6-1-1 record, Lake was runner-up at 6-2, followed by Woodmore (3-4-1), Genoa (2-5-1), and Otsego (1-6-1). The Lake boys reached the district final.

Eastwood and Genoa were co-champions in volleyball at 11-1, Lake was third at 7-5, followed by Woodmore, Elmwood, and Otsego all at 4-8, and Gibsonburg at 1-11. Eastwood was defeated in five sets by Celina in the Division II district final at Liberty-Benton, and Genoa was eliminated in the D-III district final.

Second team selections at defender are Eastwood senior John Przybylski and Lake senior Rickey Cox, at midfield is Eastwood senior Taylor Depew, Lake sophomore Austin Hall, and Woodmore junior Travis Moenter, at attacker is Eastwood junior Caleb Vespi and Genoa senior Isaac St. Marie. Second team goalkeeper is Woodmore sophomore Ryan Paul.

Girls’ soccer
Local first team girls’ selections are at defender Genoa senior Tiffany Wright, lake junior Hannah Cox, Lake senior Tara Preble, and Woodmore sophomore Shannon O’Connor. At midfield is Antonacci, Genoa senior Olivia Harder, Genoa sophomore Alexis Ortiz, and Woodmore senior Brittany Linke. AT attacker is Avers, Genoa junior Rachel Albright, and Genoa senior Olivia Reeder, who set a school record for goals scored this year. Genoa senior Kayla Pickard is the first team goalkeeper.

Second team choices are, at defender, Genoa sophomore Abagail Karikas, Lake senior Emily Whitmore, and Woodmore junior Brittany Woolford. At midfield is Eastwood junior Sam Starkey, Genoa junior Erin Schwanberger, Lake senior Jessica Abbey, Lake junior Lindsay Hoffman, and Woodmore senior Mary Catherine Roehl. At attacker is Eastwood junior Saige Smith, Lake sophomore Kayla Encalado, and Woodmore sophomore Jessica Wolfe. In goal is Lake sophomore Ashley Timmons.

Vollleyball
First team volleyball selections are Primeau, Eastwood senior outside hitter Whitney Hoodlebrink, Genoa senior outside hitter Alyssa Meis, Genoa senior setter Hannah Morrison, Eastwood junior middle blocker Courtney Rolf, Genoa senior middle blocker Jessica Feller, and Genoa senior defensive specialist Brandi Schimming.

Second team choices are Lake senior outside hitter Kaysie Brittenham, Lake senior setter McKenzie Whiteman, Lake senior middle blocker Carly Huston, Woodmore senior middle blocker Audrey Thorbahn, and Eastwood senior defensive specialist Christine Foster.

Local first team All-Toledo Area Athletic Conference choices in volleyball are Cardinal Stritch’s Sam Uher and Stacy Molnar and Northwood’s Sammie Brisbin. Second team choices are Sara Inderreiden and Megan Peer from Stritch and Jessica Heuer from Northwood.
