At the Suburban Lakes League Championships in Bettsville, behind Coach Ken Mysinger the Lake boys earned the school’s first-ever top-three finish in cross country.
Lake boys finished second overall and were led by Nathan Adkins, who finished in fourth place overall finish to earn first team All-SLL. Flyer Scott Brittenham placed eighth overall to earn second team, and senior Steve Stanley finished 13th overall to earn second team All SLL. Riley Breese and Nathan Scanlan finished 16th and 20th overall to earn Honorable Mention and round out the Flyers scoring.
The Lady Flyers were led by Stormi Roelle in 19th place overall. Hailee Greenlese followed in 24th, Amber Soncrant placed 38th, Stephanie Hull was 40th, and Tatiana Walters finished the scoring by placing 45th. The Lady Flyers finished sixth overall. Roelle’s finish earned her honorable mention honors.
Elmwood won both the boys and girls race. In the boys race, the Royals (30) were followed by Lake (61), Eastwood (74), Gibsonburg (107), Otsego (113), Genoa (149), and Woodmore (175). Eastwood senior Nick Twining was fifth and Gibsonburg senior Jordan Rosenberger was seventh.
In the girls’ race, the Royals (56) were followed by Otsego (60), Eastwood (63), Woodmore (80), Gibsonburg (98), and Lake (145). Woodmore senior Lacy Nagy won her third straight SLL title in 19:11.87, Eastwood freshman Maddie Jackson was third, Woodmore senior Angelica McCoy finished fifth, Gibsonburg senior Samantha Hoffman was sixth, and Eastwood junior Madison Renollet was seventh.
Weirich Most Outstanding Oak Harbor attacker Phil Weirich has been named the Sandusky Bay Conference’s Most Outstanding Player in soccer.
Last week, Weirich scored three goals to go over 100 for his career. Now at 101, Weirich’s hat trick led the Rockets to a 9-1 sectional victory over Clyde. Also scoring for the Rockets were Phil Alex Swope (3 goals), Ian Miller, Tyler Eoff, and Myles Backus. Adding assists were D.J. Reau (2), Anthony Hopkins (2), Tyler Eoff, and Johnny Lowe. Rocket goalie Trent Lacer made one save in one half of play. Oak Harbor improved to 15-2.
Also getting first team All-SBC are Lacer at goal, Reau and Jake Hetrick at defenseman, and Eoff at midfield. Reau, Eoff, and Weirich were unanimous selections. Backus is a second team midfielder. Honorable mention selections are Ian Miller, Phil Bryant, J.J. Rathbun, Alex Swope, and Cadan Goldstein.
Sports Announcements The community is invited to the Northwood Schools Athletic Complex "Field of Dreams" dedication on October 29 at 6:30 p.m. prior to the football game vs. Cardinal Stritch.
“Anyone who participated in the making this dream come true is invited to attend. It started as a dream of a few and the hard work of many to make this happen. This event will also recognize the various community organizations and individuals instrumental in making this athletic complex the what it is today,” stated an e-mail sent by Athletic Director Bill Hamilton.
********* Northwood’s NHS Ranger 5K Run 2010 is Oct. 30 starting at 9:30 a.m. It is a 3.1 mile run or walk through Northwood neighborhoods ending on the NHS track. There is a $20 entry fee, $15 for NHS students and graduates. Entry fee includes t-shirt. There are male and female grand champion and age division prizes. ********* The Lake Flyers girls’ basketball program will be hosting a sixth grade girls’ basketball league. Games will be played Sunday afternoons at Lake Middle School beginning December 12. The league will run for eight weeks with each team playing one game per week. The first eight teams that commit will be placed in the league. The cost is $200 per team. This is for school teams only.
