Stritch returns to Clay Memorial Stadium for home games Typically public and private schools operate completely independent of one another. However, this is not the case for Cardinal Stritch and Clay high schools during this year’s football season.
The two Oregon schools recently finalized a mutually beneficial partnership for the 2010 football season. Stritch’s homecoming game last Friday night against visiting Plymouth Christian (Mich.) saw Cardinal football return to Ted Federici Field at Clay’s Memorial Stadium.
Stritch had a long history of playing its home games at Clay before relocating them to Northwood in recent seasons.
Oregon Schools has agreed to share the use of its football stadium with Cardinal Stritch. As part of the agreement, Cardinal Stritch will rent Oregon Clay Memorial Stadium for five varsity-level football games.
For each home game, Clay will make available locker room facilities, ticket booths, concession stands, rest rooms, press box, PA system, the newly installed scoreboard, as well as parking. The Clay Band Boosters will provide the concession items for each home game and Cardinal Stritch will provide the volunteers. The Clay Band Boosters will split the profits from concession sales for each game with the Stritch athletic department.
"We are very grateful for the agreement reached between our two school systems. By working together for the good of our students, we are also building a stronger community in the City of Oregon,” said Father Eric Schild, president of the Kateri Catholic School System, which includes Cardinal Stritch and Kateri Catholic Academy, pre-K through 8th grade.
“Our schools share the same basic philosophy to provide the highest quality educational experience for our students, which includes strong academic, athletic and extra-curricular programs. It only makes sense to share our resources,” Fr. Schild continued.
Michael Zalar, Superintendent of Oregon City Schools, said, “With our schools located so close to one another, it only makes sense from a fiscal and practical standpoint to offer needed athletic resources to Cardinal Stritch. It’s a win-win.”
The remaining home games for Stritch are as follows: Sept. 18 vs. Ottawa Hills; Oct. 2 vs. Toledo Christian; Oct. 9 vs. Gates Mills Gilmour; Oct. 15 vs. Edon. All games are 7 p.m. except the contest versus Gilmour Academy is scheduled for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff.
