The Genoa Comets Athletic Boosters, a volunteer organization for Genoa Area Local Schools, announced the success of their Eighth Annual Goal Post Gala Fundraiser.
This year’s event was held on August 6 at Sunrise Banquet Center in Millbury. The annual fundraiser raises money to assist in the payment and continued enhancement of the field and stadium in their new location. The total amount raised this year was $23,649.71.
“It is only possible to achieve this level of success due to the generous donations of local businesses and individuals,” stated a press release.
The day’s event included a morning golf outing and evening festivities including a reverse raffle, an electronics raffle, 50/50 cash drawings, silent auction tables, and several live auctions.
“One live auction, ‘The Game Day Experience’ which includes eating with the football team and coaches, sitting in on pre-game team meeting, watching video, observing warm-ups, back to the locker room, on the field and ending with a postgame, made a tremendous impact on the event and the community,” the release continued. “This priceless live auction item sold to the highest bidder, Leann Duffendock.”
Duffendock, moved by what the community has done for the Athletic Boosters through the Goal Post Gala for the past eight years, decided it was time to give back. She donated ‘The Game Day Experience’ live auction win to Mike Hayes, a devoted Comet football fan.
“Giving back to the community is what it is all about,” said Duffendock.
The Gala Planning Committee President, Marty Sutter is quoted, “A big ‘thank you’ to the sponsors, donors, and community that support our annual fundraiser.”
