One Clay and one Eastwood graduate were among 24 Owens Community College student-athletes who have received Academic All-Conference honors by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) in recognition of their scholarly achievements for the 2009-10 academic year.

They are Michael Romano (biomedical electronics), a Clay grad (baseball) with a 3.3 grade point average, and Alyssa LaVoy (biology), an Eastwood grad (women’s volleyball) with a 4.0 GPA. Joining them is Brooks Gradner (pre-business administration), a Bowling Green High School graduate (men’s golf) with a 3.67 GPA. Brook’s father is Randy Gardner, an Eastwood grad now serving in the state legislature.

“Owens Community College is extremely proud of these student-athletes who have demonstrated both hard work and exceptional commitment to academic achievement,” said Michael Rickard, Owens Director of Athletics. “Their success as scholars is a positive reflection on each athletic program and the dedication shown toward educational values.”

Selection criterion for the honored recipients is based upon achieving a minimum 3.3 GPA. Owens has been a member of the OCCAC since 1987. The other member schools comprising the OCCAC are Cincinnati State, Columbus State, Cuyahoga, Edison State, Lakeland, Lorain County and Sinclair.
