The Genoa wrestling program is sponsoring the Sixth Annual Buckeye All-American Wrestling Camp June 15-17 at the Genoa High School Athletic Complex. Ohio State University All-Americans J.D. Bergman (Oak Harbor) and John Clark are counselors.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. Youth wrestlers will be separated from middle school and high school wrestlers. For info, visit genoawrestling.com.
Bergman is a three-time All-American and placed second at the 2008 NCAA Championships as a heavyweight (285 pound weight class) after moving up from 197.
Bergman is currently wrestling internationally in his pursuit of wrestling in the 2012
Olympics in London. Bergman came one step closer to his goal of an Olympic Gold Medal by recently winning the ASICS U.S. Open. Bergman beat four-time NCAA finalist and top-seeded Jake Varner in the finals, 0-1, 2-0, 5-0. Varner was last year's U.S. world team member at 96 kilos and recently concluded a collegiate career at Iowa State by winning his second straight NCAA crown.
At Ohio State, Bergman was a three-time All-American, placed third and fourth at 197 pounds twice at the NCAA finals, and is a four-time NCAA qualifier. At Oak Harbor, he was a two-time prep state champion.
John Clark is a two-time All-American and current Brown University assistant coach. Clark also coached at Stanford and Lehigh University. He was a four-time NCAA qualifier as a wrestler and two-time New York high school state champion.
