Four Gibsonburg relay teams advance to regional

Woodmore won both the boys and girls Division III district track meets at Eastwood, Gibsonburg finished a close second in the boys meet as four Golden Bear relay teams moved onto the regional.

The Wildcats outdistanced the runner-up Golden Bears in team scoring 98-93, while Northwood finished 12th with 13 points and Cardinal Stritch was 13th with three points.

Advancing to the Tiffin boys regional at Frost Kalnow Stadium from Gibsonburg is the 4x800 relay team of senior Kendall Bates, freshman Miguel “Tony” Flores, junior Jordan Rosenberger, and senior Elias Dander.

The Golden Bear 4x200 team of Bates, junior Nick Black, and seniors Avery Potridge and Tyler Krotzer advanced. Black, Potridge, Krotzer, and junior Aaron Rice qualified in the 4x100, and Black, Bates, Krotzer, and Dandar qualified in the 4x400.

All four relay teams finished as runner-ups at the district meet. The Gibsonburg

4x800 team finished in 8:41.53, the 4x200 in 1:32.8, the 4x100 in 45.77, and the 4x400 in 3:34.92

Bates qualified as an individual in the 400, Potridge in the 200, and Dander qualified in the 800. Bates was second in the 400 at district in 52.5 seconds, Potridge was third in the 24.25, and Dandar was third in the 800, running behind two Woodmore runners (seniors Brock Avers and Justin Garver) and finishing in 2:00.84 in the final.

Gibsonburg sophomore Jacob Kissell qualified in the pole vault after finishing as runner-up with a leap of 12 feet, four inches.

Northwood senior Joe Wiskochel advanced in the 100 after finishing fourth in 11.8 seconds, while Ranger senior thrower Andrew Pietras qualified in the shot put after finishing fifth with a toss of 45-10¾.

In the girls meet, Woodmore scored 96 points, Stritch was 10th with 25 points, Gibsonburg 11th with 23¼ points, and Northwood 13th with 20 points.

In the girls meet, the Northwood 4x200 meter relay team of senior Shelby Gasiorowski and sophomores Marissa Ramirez, Kayla Kurth, and Jessica Grindle advanced. They finished in 1:50.57, less than three seconds behind the leaders from Norwalk St. Paul and Ottawa Hills. In regional preliminaries last week at Tiffin, the same Ranger relay team advanced to the finals with the goal of qualifying for state Saturday.

Gibsonburg junior Samantha Hoffman advanced in the 1600 and 3200. She finished as district runner-up in the 1600 (5:30.72) and third in the 3200 (12:36.32).

Stritch senior Ellie McCloskey qualified in the shot put after taking sixth at districts with a toss of 37-9¾.
