Oregon resident Jodi Woessner charged into the record books at the 2010 United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships, crushing the all-time mark for all-events and tying the record for three-game series.

Woessner graduated from Lake High School in 1988, according to Northwood resident Rick Radocy, publisher of The Sport bowling newspaper. Radocy says her family owned Deshler Lanes, an eight-alley bowling center in Deshler, Ohio, which is where she honed her skills as a youth. She is an exempt bowler in the PBA women’s series, meaning she no longer has to qualify for national tournaments through regional events.

According to www.TeamUSAShop.com, at the U.S. Bowling Congress championships, Woessner had a scratch all-events total of 2,330, an average of 258.8 for nine games, at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center to beat the previous record of 2,231 set by Leanne Hulsenburg in 2005.

After shooting 764, Woessner returned the next afternoon and fired 816 in doubles and 750 in singles. Woessner's doubles set tied the three-game series record set last year when Michelle Feldman shot 816 to win singles.

"I didn't know what any of the records were or what was leading, so I just focused on making good shots," Woessner, who won the 2008 PBA Women's Series Shark Championship, told TeamUSAShop.com. "This is typically the week where most of the big scores are shot, and I'm one who thinks that if I can do it, anyone can do it. I certainly hope it holds up. This is a real thrill."

In the doubles set, Woessner had games of 259, 268 and 289, just missing an opportunity for a perfect game. She started game three with nine consecutive strikes and needed just a mark with good count to lock up the 800 series.

After a perfect 10th shot for a strike, Woessner stepped up and the ball sailed to the left side of the head pin, leaving the six pin, to end her bid for a perfect game.

"I don't care how many 800s or 300s you shoot, if you don't get nervous in that situation you are a robot," continued Woessner in her interview with www.TeamUSAShop.com.

Woessner combined with doubles partner Tracey Distel of Lansing, Mich., for a 1,312 total.

"When I threw the first one in the 10th and got the strike, it took a lot of the pressure off. But I just got up there and rushed to the line and threw a horrible shot,” Woessner added.

The 800 series was the sixth in Women's Championships history and came just a day after Brenda Edwards of Mansfield, Texas, added her name to the record books with an 802 series in team event.

During the 2009-10 PBA women’s series, Woesnner won $20,400 with an average score of 206.99. In 2008, she won $27,200 with an average of 206.52, making the 40-year-old’s career winnings total $47,600. In 14 events, she has a perfect 14 “cashes,” reached match play eight times, has been in two televised finals, and one won final.

Earlier in her career, Woessner finished eighth in 2008 PBA Women’s Series Tour Trials, She was one of six women to win a PBA Regional title, was named the 2007 Ohio Woman Bowler of the Year, is a member of the Toledo and Ohio State women’s bowling halls of fame, and owns three PWBA Regional titles.

According to www.RotoGrip.com, competing against mostly men, Woessner bowled a near perfect 279 with her Roto Grip Odyssey to defeat Jason Couch, who rolled a solid 257, to win the PBA Central Region Storm Products/Beechmont Toyota Open.

Woessner finished second in the qualifying round and continued her impressive bowling in match play. After 16 games of match Jodi was sitting second with a record of 5-3 and a total pin fall of 3972. She qualified fourth after 24 games with a 10-6 match play record and a total pin fall of 5913.

In the step ladder finals Woessner started as the fourth seed and defeated the third seed, Ken Abner, 269-235. She moved on to defeat the second seed, Emilio Mora Jr., by the score of 215-201. In the finals Woessner faced perennial PBA star Jason Couch, who she defeated to collect the $3,000 first place prize. With the victory Woessner became one of the few women to win a PBA regional event.
