Maumee River fishing report goes mobile

Fishing report now available on cell phones and other mobile devices.

Maumee River fishing has entered the world of mobile technology with the launch of the Maumee River Mobile Fishing Report.

Dave Cremer, who grew up in Perrysburg fishing the spring walleye and white bass spawning runs, knew fishing folks wanted daily river fishing reports.  He thought fisherman would like the option of receiving fishing reports on their cell phones and other mobile devices.  Cremer contacted Gary Lowry, owner of Maumee Tackle, who agreed, and now provides the daily report information.

Anyone with a text message capable cell phone or other mobile device may subscribe to the fishing report, free (your text message plan fees still apply), by text messaging the keyword 'maumee' to the service's prefix code, ' This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it '.  Unlike short code numbers (a five or six digit number that replaces a cell phone number) used in current text message programs (text to vote, text to enter a contest), the system Cremer uses is Internet-based.  It operates the same as any text message, except the send-to phone number is replaced by the e-mail style prefix code.  A person simply types the prefix code in place of the phone number.  People can also get the report by regular e-mail, an advantage over the short code based systems.

Cremer says accuracy and simplicity is the key to the report.  When it comes to Maumee River fishing, people want to know the run status and water level, and they want it from a reliable source.

Lowry has operated Maumee Tackle for 20 years, and has become the hub of the spring spawning run fishing from his location just up from the river in Maumee.  Lowry checks the river every morning during the runs, posting the information on the store’s web site, www.maumeetackle.net.  Now his patrons and others may receive the fishing report directly via text message or e-mail.
