state runner-up in Division II at the state tournament, losing 3-2 to Logan Erb of Wapakoneta in the 215 championship match at Value City Arena in Columbus. The loss to Erb was Henderson’s only defeat this season.

Henderson started the state tournament by defeating Jared Gravely (Gallipolis Gallia Academy) 11-6, and then winning a 3-2 decision over Joe Poyser (Louisville) in the championship quarterfinal. In the semifinal, Henderson defeated Trevor Strickland (Clyde) 6-0

Four Clay wrestlers competed at the Division I level — sophomore Angelo Amenta (130), 44-10; senior Nick Garcia (103), 40-3; senior Mark Orth (135), 26-12; junior Chico Cloyne (160), 29-14.

Garcia placed fourth, being pinned by George DiCamillo (Cleveland St. Ignatius) in 4:22 in the third place match.

Garcia opened with a 6-5 decision over Ryan Murdock (Dublin Coffman), then pinned J.R. Perry (Warren Howland) in the championship quarterfinals in 4:52. In the semifinal, he was pinned by Jack Young (Mentor) in 3:17. Garcia then defeated Murdock a second time, this time by a 7-0 shutout decision, placing him in the consolation final.

place final. Orth opened with a 10-5 decision over Shawn Fayette (Miamisburg), then defeated Zach Dailey (Massillon Perry) 4-3 in the championship quarterfinal. In the semifinal, he was defeated by Mark Martin (Lakewood St. Edward) by a 9-1 major decision, then lost to Fayette 8-5 in a rematch during the consolation semifinal.

Amenta and Cloyne did not place. Amenta opened by losing to Drew Hammer (Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller) by a 9-5 decision. He then defeated Ryan Hoyt (St. Ignatius) 3-1, but was eliminated when losing to Cody Shivener (Springboro) by a 17-12 decision.

Cloyne opened by losing in a 15-0 technical fall to Caleb Marsh (Marysville), then was pinned in 41 seconds by C.J. Rivera (Harrison).

In D-II, Eastwood senior Seth Hoffman (54-4) competed at 160 and East Toledo resident and Central Catholic grappler Jake Henderson (46-0) was at 215.

Hoffman finished fourth, losing 2-1 to Eric Hildenbrand (Franklin) in the third place final rematch and an identical score of a quarterfinal match. Hofffman opened by pinning Mike Braun (Chagrin Falls Kenston) in 1:07, then lost 2-1 to Hildenbrand in the championship quarterfinals. In the consolation round, Hoffman decisioned Ian Humphrey (Lexington) by a 3-1 score, then won an 11-3 major decision over Neal Williams (Cincinnati Wyoming). In the consolation semifinal, he defeated Anthony Nadeja (Hubbard), 5-3.

In D-III, Lake senior Brandon Tantari (36-5) was at 189, Cardinal Stritch senior Kyle Gladieux (43-3) was at 160, and Gibsonburg sophomore Damen Escobedo (46-11) was at 135.

Gladieux placed fifth, pinning Cody Rodgers (Mechanicsburg) in 52 seconds in his final match. Gladieux opened by pinning Trevor Kunk (Coldwater) in 1:01, then won a 4-0 decision over Bryson Hall (Doylestown Chippewa) in the championship quarterfinal. In the semifinal, he was defeated by Nick Leforce, (Carlisle) 10-7, then lost to Miles Chapman (Hopewell-Loudon) by a 6-5 decision, thus earning a spot in the consolation final.

Tantari placed sixth, being pinned by Rich Ulmer (Galion) in 1:57 in the fifth place final. Tantari opened the tournament by losing to Jonathon Beam (Apple Creek Waynedale) in a 16-6 major decision, but rebounded back. In the opening consolation, Tantari won an 11-0 major decision over Layton Graves (Coshocton) then won a 6-4 decision over Curtis Miller (Delphos Jefferson). In the consolation quarterfinal, the Lake grappler won a 3-2 decision over Kaleb Miller (Amanda-Clearcreek), but was defeated by Royal Brettrager (Kirtland) 9-3 in the consolation semifinal.

Escobedo did not place, losing to Johnny Carpenter (Cincinnati Madeira) by an 18-5 major decision in his opening match then to Dom Barlow (Heath) by a 16-0 technical fall.
