Rocket relay team places in two events at state meet
The Oak Harbor 200 meter relay swimming team finished 12th overall in Division II while the Rocket 400 relay team finished 13th at the state in Canton last weekend. Both relay teams consisted of senior Jenna Diekman, senior Olivia Porter, junior Marlee Carpenter, and senior Brielle Hanthorn.
In the 200 relay, Oak Harbor finished in a preliminary time of 1:41.22 and in the finals at 1:41.89, scoring 10 points for Oak Harbor. In the 400, the relay team finished with a time of 3:45.27 in the prelim and 3:44.51 in the final, scoring eight points for the Rockets.
Those two events helped the Rockets finish 31st in the state meet with 18 points. Gates Mills Hawkens was the Division II state champions with 333 points, and 54 schools scored points in the D-II girls meet. Porter also competed in the 50 freestyle individual race.
Lake sophomore Sam TenEyck (D-II) and St. Francis DeSales junior Dylan Szegedi (D-I), an Oregon resident, each finished 11th in diving. Szegedi had a score of 261.8 in the semifinal and 377.3 in the final. TenEyck scored 223.15 in the semi and 295.45 in the final.
Eastwood’s Nathan Decker finished 15th in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:00.25 in the preliminaries and 4:59.44 in the final.
Kylee Ault qualifies
Clay sophomore Kylee Ault qualified for the state gymnastics meet this past weekend at Hilliard Bradley High School just outside Columbus. Her coach is Nick Distel.

Cardinal Stritch High School is accepting applications for the position of head girls basketball coach. The head coach is responsible for the entire Cardinal Stritch and Kateri Catholic Academy girls’ basketball program. The Oak Harbor High School Winter Sports Awards Night will be March 11. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. High school athletes from wrestling, basketball, swimming and diving, and cheerleading will all be recognized. Parents/guardians are asked to bring a dessert to share following the presentations.
