Owens Community College golfer Jimmy Bell (Rossford) finished 29th at the NJCAA Division II National Golf Tournament at Goose Pond Colony in Scottboro, Alabama. Bell shot a 78-75-73-74—300 to finish 12 strokes over par. The national individual championship was won by David Griffin of the Rend Lake College Warriors (Ill.), who shot a five-under-par 66-70-76-71—283. The John A. Logan (Ill.) CC Volunteers won the team championship, shooting a nine-over-par 296-284-295-286—1161.
Prospective high school graduates and area residents interested in playing intercollegiate golf at Owens Community College are invited to open tryouts Monday-Tuesday, June 8-9.
Open tryouts begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 8 at Lakeland Golf Club in Fostoria and at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at Loudon Meadows Golf Club in Fostoria.
Led by Head Coach Gilbert Guerrero, this season’s Express golf team captured five match and invitational titles during the recently-completed season, highlighted by its third consecutive first-place finish in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference Championship Invitational. The program also captured its fourth NJCAA Region XII Sub-Regional championship after rounds of 317-314 (631) at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg.
