Defiance College baseball got a crisp outing from senior Brad Timofeev (Clay) on the mound and extended its Rutter Field opponents’ scoreless inning streak to 21-consecutive innings with a 2-0 win over Manchester on Wednesday afternoon. The victory was DC’s second-straight shutout on its home turf.
Timofeev leaned on his defense to help keep the Spartans at bay over the final three innings, as Casey Kahsen erased a runner on the bases in the seventh and Brugler stranded a pair of runners in the eighth with a running catch into the right-center field gap to end the threat.
The senior hurler then finished off the complete game shutout by retiring the Manchester lineup in order in the ninth inning to secure his second victory of the season. Timofeev threw 122 pitches in the nine scoreless frames and allowed only eight hits and two walks.
Timofeev finishes off his collegiate career at Defiance with a 5.72 ERA, 7 wins, 29 Appearances, 2 shutouts and 157.3 innings pitched. Timofeev started and finished his career at Defiance with a shutout. Brad also had a career batting average of 295.
Support Brad Timofeev this year was his younger brother Alex who had a 310 batting average with 109 at bats with 31 hits, 1 home run and 14 RBI’s and ranked 3rd for the highest batting average for the yellow jackets this season.
Alex Timofeev will continue his career at Defiance College next year and the Ohio Monarchs this summer while his older brother Brad will hang up his cleats and focus on his professional business career.
